Oscars 2024 Fashion Review

Oscars 2024 Fashion Review

The 96th Academy Awards ceremony took place on March 10th, 2024. Of course, we’ll remember it because of Oppenheimer’s triumph — the movie became a winner in seven categories. However, the red carpet this year was full of fashion moments we’re dying to discuss. Without further ado, let’s dive into Oscars 2024 fashion and see what our favorite celebrities wore to the ceremony. Keep scrolling!

There were quite some malfunctions this year. For example, Liza Koshy took a fall in her gorgeous Marchesa gown and high-platform shoes. She brushed it off hilariously and compared her fall to the famous Jennifer Lawrence’s moment.

Emma Stone appeared in an elegant Louis Vuitton gown, but it seems like everyone’s going to remember only her zipper breaking.

Yay, we finally saw Margot Robbie in anything but Barbie pink! The star graced the red carpet in the black Versace gown from the Fall 2024 collection. What a stunning style shift. On the contrary, her co-star Ryan Gosling sang his Ken song in a hot pink dazzling suit. His performance looked like an homage to Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”

There were a lot of black dresses on this year’s red carpet as if there was a secret dress code. One of the most spectacular total black looks was Sandra Hüller in Schiaparelli. The dress aimed to reference the 1947’s look of socialite Millicent Rogers. Carey Mulligan appeared in a reinvented 1951 Balenciaga gown. The other look to remember was Greta Lee’s silk Loewe dress.

Zendaya in Armani Privé looked like the most beautiful Academy Awards statuette herself. Critics say her look might have started a “rosy glow” manicure trend.

Anya Taylor-Joy wore an homage to the legendary 1949 Junon dress by Christian Dior. We have already seen dresses that were made based on the iconic design on Miley Cyrus and Natalie Portman.

A Godzilla-looking dress by Louis Vuitton was spotted on Cynthia Erivo – from the back, the dress looked like a reptile. And the team of the “Godzilla Minus One” movie stepped on the red carpet in fun Godzilla shoes by Ryosuke Matsui.

Certainly, there also were some less successful looks. For example, the butterfly dress was obviously inspired by the famous Alexander McQueen’s gown but ended up looking like a low-quality knock-off.

This year’s Oscars had only a few archival looks but they were spectacular. For example, Laverne Cox walked the red carpet in a vintage 1985 Mugler gown.

Jennifer Lawrence picked an unusual Dior polka dot gown. Charlize Theron looked stunning in her elegant and classy gown. Michelle Yeoh had a great fashion moment in Balenciaga couture. Florence Pugh shockingly decided to choose Del Core instead of Valentino and looked gorgeous. Emily Blunt looked amazing in Schiaparelli, but we recommend checking the dress out on a video because the photos don’t convey its beauty.

Every red carpet features weird looks and this year’s Oscars was no exception. Although it depends on what you find weird.
