Simba onesie
Simba is a semi-fitted, footed onesie. The round neckline and long raglan sleeves are finished with binding. The onesie fastens with a zipper along the left-front sleeve and side seams and features a gusset at the crotch. There is elastic stitched above the feet at the back for a better fit.
Approximate sewing time — 1 day (8 hours).
To sew this onesie, choose knit fabrics with the following properties:
- medium weight, soft, low-stretch
- the fiber content can include natural fibers (cotton), artificial fibers (viscose), blends (cotton + polyester, cotton + elastane, etc.), and synthetics (polyester, polyester + elastane)
- the following fabrics are recommended: interlock knits, jersey knits, sweater knits.
Attention! We do not recommend heavyweight, structured fabrics (French terry).

2. Stitched bias-cut fusible stay tape, 1 cm (3/8’’) wide, for all sizes in all heights — 1 m (1 1/8 yd)
3. Elastic, 0.7 cm (1/4’’) wide — 14–21 cm (5 1/2–8 1/4’’), depending on the size. The exact elastic length is specified on the pattern pieces.
4. One coil zipper No.3, 40 cm (15 3/4") long, for all sizes in all heights
5. Matching thread — 5 spools (1 spool for the sewing machine + 4 spools for the overlocker)
- sewing machine for construction
- one-sided foot for the sewing machine
- overlocker for finishing raw edges. This may be replaced with a stretch overlock stitch or a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine (overlock or zigzag stitch width 2–3 mm, stitch length 2.5 mm)
- coverstitch or coverlock machine for finishing the neckline and sleeve hems. If you don’t have a coverstitch machine, you can replace it with a twin needle on any regular sewing machine that can do a zigzag stitch.
Important! We recommend using specialty needles when working with knit fabrics (for example, STRETCH, SUPER STRETCH, JERSEY, etc.). These are ballpoint needles, so they part the threads of the fabric you are stitching rather than pierce them.
