Helen is a loose-fitting dress with a straight silhouette. It has a detachable belt that closes with a buckle. The front features bust darts transferred to the side seams. The back features a separate yoke with a pleat underneath at the center back. Helen has a turn-down collar with a separate stand. A free-hanging decorative collar tie is attached with tacks under the collar. There is a slit from the neckline down to the bust level at the center front. The dress features set-in semi-fitted sleeves with cuffs. The side seams end in high hemline slits. The front and hemline slits, cuffs, collar, belt, collar tie, and garment hem feature topstitching lines. The dress is below-knee length.
Model Kseniya: Height 171cm (5’7”), Bust 86cm (33 7/8”), Waist 63cm (24 3/4”), Hips 92cm (36 1/4”). Kseniya is wearing size 36 in height 2.
Model Yana: Height 174cm (5’8”), Bust 108cm (42 1/2”), Waist 90cm (35 3/8”), Hips 128cm (50 3/8”). Yana is wearing size 48 in height 3.
Sewing time — 1.5 days (10 hours).
To sew this dress, choose dress-weight and suiting fabrics with the following properties:
- medium weight, structured, non-stretch or with very little stretch, opaque;
- the fiber content can include natural fibers (wool, silk, cotton, linen), artificial fibers (viscose), blends (wool + silk, wool + polyester, cotton + viscose, etc.), and synthetics (polyester, polyester + elastane);
- the following fabrics are recommended: wool, gabardine, denim, fine wale corduroy, corduroy, faux leather, suede.
Attention! We do not recommend stretchy knit materials (jersey fabrics) and lightweight sheer fabrics (chiffon, organza, stretch lace).
The dress in the photo is made of:
- denim; the fiber content is a blend: 98% recycled cotton + 2% polyester. This fabric is medium weight, structured, with very little stretch;
- faux leather; the fiber content is a blend: 45% artificial silk + 50% PU + 5% elastane. This fabric is medium weight, soft, with very little stretch.

3. Tape (satin, gross grain or nylon), 5 mm (just under 1/4”) wide, for slit reinforcement — 20 cm (7 7/8”) for all sizes and heights.
4. One 5 cm (2”) wide buckle.
5. Matching thread — 5 spools (1 spool for the sewing machine + 4 spools for the overlocker).
6. Matching topstitching thread (for example, Madeira No. 35) — 1 spool.
7. Double-sided basting tape (for a faux leather garment) — 1 roll.
- sewing machine for construction;
- overlocker for finishing raw edges. This may be replaced with a stretch overlock stitch or a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine (overlock or zigzag stitch width 2–3 mm, stitch length 2.5 mm) (for a denim garment);
- stitch-in-the-ditch foot for the sewing machine (optional);
- teflon or walking foot for the sewing machine (for a faux leather garment).
