Melinda is a fitted dress with a bias-cut skirt that flares out towards the bottom. The bust darts have been transferred into gathers along the front bodice shoulder seam. The gathers are created by sewing several rows of parallel stitch lines. Melinda features design lines on the front bodice starting at the bust area and going towards the waist area at the side seams. The waist darts have also been transferred into gathers on the back bodice and along the design lines of the front bodice. Melinda fastens with an invisible zip in the upper part of the centre back seam. The upper part of the centre front seam features a faux buttons and button loops fastening that finishes with an opening at the bottom of the centre seam. The dress has long set-in sleeves with flounces at the bottom. The second sleeve option is a short sleeve just above the elbow in length. It features an asymmetric design being slightly shorter at the front and flaring out towards the bottom. Melinda is a midi dress.

Model Alina: Height 172 cm (5’8”), Bust 86 cm (33 7/8”), Waist 65 cm (25 5/8”), Hips 93 cm (36 5/8”). Alina is wearing size 36 in height 3.

Approximate sewing time – 12 hours.

To sew the dress, choose dress-weight fabrics with the following properties:

- lightweight, soft, with good drape, non-stretch or with very little stretch, opaque

- the fiber content can include natural fibers (silk, cotton), artificial fibers (viscose), blends (cotton + silk, silk + polyester, cotton + viscose, etc.) and synthetics (polyester, polyester + elastane)

- the following fabrics are recommended: dress-weight silk, crepe, crepe de chine, satin, velvet with a silk backing

Attention! We do not recommend stiff fabrics that hold their shape well (stiff cotton, denim, organza, broderie anglaise, lace).

The dress in the photo is made of silk of a blouse and dress weight. This fabric is lightweight, soft, has good drape and no stretch. The fiber content is 100% silk.

IMPORTANT! When purchasing fabric, please account for shrinkage and buy 5% more than required.

2. Lightweight knit or woven interfacing, 140 cm (55”) wide for all sizes in all heights – 0.4 m (3/8 yd)

3. An invisible zipper, 60 cm (23 5/8”) long for all sizes in all heights

4. Buttons (or self-cover buttons), 0.7–1 cm (1/4–3/8”) in diameter – 17 pieces

5. Matching thread – 5 spools (1 spool for the sewing machine + 4 spools for the overlocker)

- Sewing machine for construction

- Overlocker for finishing raw edges. This may be replaced with a stretch overlock stitch or a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine (overlock or zigzag stitch width 2–3 mm, stitch length 2.5 mm)

- Stitch-in-the-ditch foot for the sewing machine (optional)

- Invisible zipper foot for the sewing machine
