To sew this dress, choose knit fabrics with the following properties: medium weight, soft, stretchy (with elastane).

The fiber content can include:

- natural fibers (cotton, wool)

- blends (containing synthetic and/or artificial fibers): cotton + polyester + elastane, wool + polyester + elastane

- synthetics (polyester, polyester + elastane).

The photos in this instruction manual demonstrate two versions of the Telma dress: the green one is made of the knit fabric, which is a blend of wool and polyester, while the terracotta dress is made of thick French terry, which is a blend of cotton and elastane.

IMPORTANT! When purchasing fabric, please account for shrinkage and buy 5% more than required.

2. Fusible stretchy stay tape, 1 cm (3/8”) wide, or strips of lightweight knit interfacing cut on the bias — 0.2–0.25 m (about 1/4 yd). The exact length is to be measured on the pattern.

3. Fusible straight-grain stay tape or strips of lightweight knit interfacing cut on the straight grain — 0.4–0.5 m (3/8–1/2 yd). The exact length is to be measured on the pattern.

4. Matching thread — 1 spool for the sewing machine + 4 spools for the overlocker.

- sewing machine for construction

- overlocker for finishing raw edges. This may be replaced with a stretch overlock stitch or a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine (overlock or zigzag stitch width 2–3 mm, stitch length 2.5 mm)

- coverstitch (coverlock) machine for finishing the neckline, garment hem and sleeve hems. This may be replaced with a twin needle on a regular sewing machine that can do a zigzag stitch.

Important! We recommend using specialty needles when working with knit fabrics. When sewing, a ball-shaped needle point pushes the knit loops apart without piercing the threads.
