Fern Jacket
Fern is a loose-fitting jacket with a straight cut. It features yokes and princess seams at the front and back and a grown-on center front placket with a stud button and buttonhole closure. The shoulder seam has been moved toward the front. The front has inner patch pockets with buttoned flaps. The shirt-style collar has a separate collar stand. The long, two-piece shirt sleeves feature a slit in the elbow seam and a cuff at the bottom. The slit laces up with a decorative cord threaded through grommets. The bottom edge of the jacket features an applied waistband with two tabs. The sleeve cuff and the tabs on the waistband have a stud button and buttonhole closure. All seams are topstitched. Fern is below-hip length.
Approximate sewing time: 2 days (16 hours).
Model Angelica: Height 176 cm (5'9"), Bust 83 cm (32 5/8"), Waist 62 cm (24 3/8"), Hips 90 cm (35 3/8"). Angelica is wearing size XS in height 3.
To sew this jacket, choose medium- to heavyweight, low-stretch fabrics made of natural fibers, artificial fibers, blends, or synthetics.
The following fabrics are recommended: denim, corduroy.
The jacket in the photo is made of denim fabric. The fabric is medium weight and has very little stretch. The fiber content is 100% cotton. The fabric weight is 300 g/m2.

3. Stitched bias-cut fusible stay tape with stitch reinforcement, 1.5 cm (5/8”) wide — 1.5 m (1 5/8 yd)
4. Fifteen (plus one or two spare ones) metal stud buttons for jeans, 1.5–2 cm (5/8–3/4") in diameter
5. Thirty-two (plus one or two spare ones) metal grommets, 0.7 cm (1/4") in diameter
6. Decorative cord for the sleeves (divided into two equal parts) for all sizes in all heights — 3 m (3 1/4 yd).
7. Matching thread — 5 spools (1 spool for the sewing machine + 4 spools for the overlocker)
8. Matching (or contrasting) topstitching thread (for example, Madeira No. 35) — 2 spools
- sewing machine for construction
- overlocker for finishing raw edges. This may be replaced with a stretch overlock stitch or a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine (overlock or zigzag stitch width 2–3 mm, stitch length 2.5 mm)
- buttonhole foot for the sewing machine
- stitch-in-the-ditch foot for the sewing machine (optional)
- stud button and grommet press tools with corresponding sets of molds, hole puncher.
