Catalina skirt
Catalina is a full circle layered skirt. It can either function as a separate garment or replace the original skirt in a dress by being attached to the bodice along the waistline. The skirt has a free-hanging lining and fastens with an invisible zipper in the center back seam. The skirt is gathered along the top edge and features an applied waistband. Catalina is below-ankle length.
Model Varvara: Height 174 cm (5’8”), Bust 86 cm (33 7/8”), Waist 64 cm (25 1/4”), Hips 92 cm (36 1/4”). Varvara is wearing size 36 in height 3.
To sew this skirt, choose dress-weight fabrics with the following properties:
- medium weight, pliable, soft, non-stretch, sheer for the top skirt, opaque for the bottom skirt
- the fiber content can include natural fibers (silk), artificial fibers (viscose), blends (silk + polyester, silk + viscose, etc.), and synthetics (polyester)
- the following fabrics are recommended: tulle, silk satin, silk crepe
Attention! We do not recommend stretchy knits, stretch mesh, and stretch lace fabrics.
The skirt in the photo is made of five layers of fabric:
- bottom skirt — 2 layers of silk The fabric is medium weight, soft, non-stretch, and with good drape. The fiber content is 100% polyester. The fabric weight is 150 g/m2.
- top skirt — 3 layers of tulle. The fabric is lightweight, pliable, soft, and sheer. The fiber content is 100% polyester. The fabric weight is 20 g/m2.

IMPORTANT! When purchasing fabric, please account for shrinkage and buy 5% more than required.
4. One invisible zipper, 25 cm (9 7/8") long, for all sizes in all heights. If the skirt is to be added to the bodice, choose an invisible zipper in the length given for the dress
5. Stitched bias-cut fusible stay tape with stitch reinforcement, 1.5 cm (5/8") wide — 0.5 m (1/2 yd)
6. Matching thread — 5 spools (1 spool for the sewing machine + 4 spools for the overlocker)
- sewing machine for construction
- overlocker for finishing raw edges. This may be replaced with a stretch overlock stitch or a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine (overlock or zigzag stitch width 2–3 mm, stitch length 2.5 mm)
- invisible zipper foot for the sewing machine
- one-sided foot for the sewing machine
