Fitting: getting rid of excess volume in the back of the shorts

One of our customers sent us a photo of a shorts toile and asked why there was so much excess fabric in the back and how she could fix it.

Such issue can occur if one has a flat seat. In this case, there’s excess volume and bubbling in the back, but you can fix it this way:

• Add darts to the center seam
• Remove the excess volume around the center seam, tapering towards the side seams.

When you achieve the desired fit and vertical side seams, transfer all the changes to your printed pattern:

• Maintain the size and location of the darts
• Cut one side of the dart and overlap the parts to connect the lines. Make sure to secure made changes.
