How to adjust the dress pattern to a pregnant belly

When Viki, the Vikisews patterns founder, was soon welcomed her second baby she, unfortunately, can no longer comfortably wear her beloved Lacey slip dress. So, she decided to alter the pattern to accommodate her growing belly. Keep reading to find out how she did that. Viki usually wears size 36 in height group 2, but this time she chose size 38, and then:

  1. At the waistline, she added an extra 2 cm (3/4") ease to the side edges of the front and back pieces.
  2. At the bottom edge of the dress, she flared the silhouette by adding 7 cm (2 3/4") at the side edges of the front and back pieces.
  3. At the bottom of the center back seam, she flared the silhouette by adding 3.5 cm (1 3/8") to both back pieces.
  4. For the lining, Viki made the same alterations as to the main pattern pieces and then shortened it by 20–25 cm (8–10").

Within the pregnancy period, Viki got away with wearing her pre-pregnancy wardrobe sewn by Vikisews ready-to-make patterns and preferred covering her unfastened bottoms by wearing long, oversized tops and outerwear. You can do the same and review all patterns here
