Discover two convenient ways to finish the slit at the hem of your garment (pants, a skirt, or a dress) or at the sleeve hem.
Method 1
1️. Place the pieces right sides together and stitch the sections above and below the slit with 1 cm (3/8”) seam allowance. Leave the slit section unstitched.
2️, Fold each piece right sides together, matching the slit edges, so that the seams touch.
3️. From the point where the seams touch, sew a stitching line on each side of the slit, with a 1 cm (3/8”) seam allowance.
4️. Turn the corners right side out. Press the seam allowances open.
5️. On the wrong side, turn the raw edge inwards by 1−1.5 cm (3/8−5/8”) and edgestitch 1 mm away from the fold.
Method 2
1️. Place the pieces right sides together and stitch the section above the slit with a 1 cm (3/8”) seam allowance. Leave the slit unstitched.
2️. Press the seam allowances open.
3️. Turn one piece upwards. On the other piece, fold the hem allowance up to the slit point, folding 1 cm (3/8”) raw edge in the opposite direction.
4️. Stitch along the slit edge with a 1 cm (3/8”) seam allowance. Then repeat on the other side.
5️. Turn the slit corners right side out and press. On the wrong side, stitch 1 mm away from the folded edge.
