This celebration has already been called the wedding of the century! And that’s true – we probably won’t see another couple gathering so many celebrity guests, celebrating for four months straight, and spending about $600 million on it all. However, we’ve still got roughly 80 years till the end of the 21st century, so let’s wait and see.
But today we invite you to take a look at the wedding looks of the two richest heirs in India – Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant – and their guests! Keep scrolling!
The wedding itself lasted for three days, from 12 to 14 July. The guest list looks really impressive: Boris Johnson, David and Victoria Beckham, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Priyanka Chopra, and others. Before the wedding, there were gorgeous celebrations that were visited by other world-famous celebrities like Rhianna, Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, Ivanka Trump, Mark Zuckerberg, Katy Perry, Backstreet Boys, and Justin Bieber.
The organizers came up with a meticulous dress code that took 10 pages to describe. One of the highlights was the fake jewelry ban. As a result, not only dresses and sarees were decorated with diamonds, emeralds, and other gemstones, but hair as well – check out the hairdo of Khloe Kardashian.
The wedding gown of the bride was curated by the most renowned Indian fashion designers – Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The first look was truly stunning: it was an amazing interpretation of “Panetar'', the Gujarai tradition of brides wearing red and white. On the third day of the wedding, Radhika wore a dress by Dolce&Gabbana, from the latest Alta Moda show.
The groom’s looks were distinguished by brooches depicting different animals. This was supposed to reference Anant Ambani’s animal protection activism. Using the financial support of Reliance Industries, his father’s company, Ambani launched a 3000-acre animal shelter. It even includes an elephant hospital! The groom used the brooches, many of which were custom-made for the wedding, to demonstrate his love for animals.
The most important guests of the wedding were dressed by Indian designer Manish Malhotra. He is the biggest couturier in the country and the author of almost all red-carpet looks of Indian celebrities. He started as a film costume designer but later launched his own fashion house.
Malhotra created custom-made looks for Kim and Khloe Kardashian to make an appearance on the first day of the celebration. Kim managed to cause quite a stir: according to Indian traditions, only the bride can wear red, but the first and third looks of Kim Kardashian were red, which caused a lot of backlash. By the way, the third look was also created by an Indian designer, Gaurav Gupta.
