Grace jacket sewing course

70.00
Grace is a semi-fitted double-breasted jacket with a straight silhouette. The front features vertical princess seams, while the back is shaped with a center seam and shoulder darts. The shoulder line is slightly extended. The shaping of the shoulders is achieved with shoulder pads. The long two-piece sleeves feature a vent in the elbow seam and decorative buttons. The jacket fastens with buttons and buttonholes. The neckline is round. There are decorative flaps above the waist at the front. The jacket is fully lined and has contrast piping sewn between the lining and the facing. The sleeves are lined with the same fabric that is used for the piping. Grace is slightly above-hip length.
Model Inna: Height 172 cm (5’8”), Bust 84 cm (33 1/8”), Waist 64 cm (25 1/4”), Hips 94 cm (37”). Inna is wearing size 36 in height 3.

- The jacket pattern in all sizes and heights, in the PDF format (A4, letter) printable on a regular printer and plotter format (both). The size of the plotter format is indicated in the name of the document. You will need a plotter printer that can print at least 900 mm width.
- A workbook describing all the stages of the garment toile making process, correction of fitting issues, construction of the main garment illustrated by photos, tools and equipment required, as well as extra information on how to work with the Vikisews patterns (how to print them out and put them together), how to choose the right size.
- Video lessons on how to select the materials (main fabric, lining fabric, interfacing material, and notions).
- Step-by-step video lessons on the following:
- how to cut the toile pieces, assemble them, and perform the toile fitting
- how to interface the garment pieces

- how to finish the neckline and front edges with the facing
- how to finish the decorative flaps
- how to sew the vents in the elbow seams of the sleeves
- how to attach the set-in sleeves to the garment
- how to make the piping
- how to attach the piping and join the garment with the lining
All the video lessons are divided into topics and provided in a consecutive order. Intense and concise, they are free from any irrelevant content.
- sewing machine for construction
- overlocker (in case the main and lining fabrics fray easily)
- buttonhole foot
- stitch-in-the-ditch foot
- one-sided foot
- sewing machine needles No. 80 for the suiting fabric
- sewing machine needles No. 70 for the lining fabric
To sew this jacket, choose suiting fabrics with the following properties: medium weight, structured, non- or low-stretch.
The fiber content should be 100% wool or wool blended with artificial (viscose) or synthetic fibers (polyester, elastane, acrylic, nylon, etc.).
Choose plain-colored or mélange fabrics. If you sew with chequered or striped fabric, add two pattern repeats to the fabric requirements when buying the fabric. Moreover, the pattern will need to be aligned during construction.
The following fabrics are recommended: tweed, bouclé fabrics, basket weave fabrics.
The jacket in the photo is made of wool tweed. The fiber content is a blend of wool (90%) and nylon (10%).
Attention! We do not recommend fabrics with the following properties:
- very stretchy, lightweight, loosely woven, soft, non-structured.
For the lining, choose lining fabrics made of viscose, viscose + elastane, or viscose + polyester. The lining fabric should be smooth, opaque, pleasant to the touch, non- or low-stretch.

4. Fusible stay tapes:

4.1. Straight-grain fusible stay tape, 1–1.5 cm (3/8–5/8") wide — about 2.5 m (2 3/4 yd) (for the toile)

4.2. Bias-cut fusible stay tape, 1–1.5 cm (3/8–5/8") wide — about 8.5 m (9 1/4 yd) (for the main garment and the toile)

5. All-purpose matching thread for the main fabric — 5 spools (1 spool for the sewing machine + 4 spools for the overlocker in case the fabric frays easily)

6. All-purpose matching thread for the lining fabric — 1 spool

7. Buttons:

- eight metal shank buttons, 2–2.2 cm (3/4–7/8") in diameter

- six metal shank buttons, 1.5 cm (5/8") in diameter, for the sleeve vents

- one clear backing button, 2–2.2 cm (3/4–7/8") in diameter

8. One pair of non-foam, layered, 1 cm (3/8") high shoulder pads for set-in sleeves

9. One pair of sleeve heads or a piece of medium-loft polyester batting (0.1 m or 1/8 yd), 100 g/m2, to make them

10. Smooth, soft, unwaxed cord for the piping, about 1.5–2 mm in diameter, cotton or cotton + polyester (the larger the diameter, the thicker the piping will be in the finished garment) — about 1.85 m (2 yd). Since the cord will shrink during pressing and steaming, we recommend buying a bit more than required. You may use ready-made piping instead of making it yourself, see the requirement for the cord

11. Fabric for the toile such as unbleached calico (the requirement is the same as for the main fabric, plus about 0.25 m [1/4 yd] of the interfacing)
