Finishing a hem without an overlocker

Finishing a hem without an overlocker

If you don’t have an overlocker but still need to finish a raw hem, fear not — it actually turns out even prettier! Just follow the tutorial from this video.

1️. Place the main piece on top of the hem band piece with their right sides up. Stitch a line at 1 cm (3/8”) from the edge. Press the seam allowances towards the band.

2️. On the opposite side of the hem band, attach the trim (a strip folded in half). Again, press the seam allowance towards the band.

3️. Fold the hem band at its center and use the free side with the trim to cover the band attaching seam. Stitch in the ditch of the seam below the trim.

This is haute couture finishing at its finest!
