What is Coachella?

Coachella is the most fashionable and one of the biggest music and art festivals that takes place in the Coachella Valley, California.

Thanks to Coachella, people don’t immediately associate music festivals with alcohol and antisocial behavior – we know it as a beloved annual event that’s worth meticulous preparation. Every year, top-list celebrities visit the festival and keep us updated on everything that’s happening there. The photo with that Coachella Ferris wheel in the background has already become a festival classic.

Coachella has become an effective promotion tool for fashion brands: they dress celebrities for concerts and throw thematic parties during the festival. In 2023, the most popular brands at the festival were Gucci, Diesel, Blumarine, Acne Studios, Paco Rabanne, Magda Butrym, Bottega Veneta, and vintage Louis Vuitton.

The brand selection doesn’t look surprising: the listed designers fit well with the 70s aesthetics inherited from the famous Woodstock festival. However, the style often sported at Coachella looks more sophisticated than the Woodstock boho. Today’s boho is mixed up with Y2K style and doesn’t look nonconformist.

The main fashion details of this year’s Coachella are fringe, denim, loose-fitting fluid blouses and dresses, bandanas, comfortable footwear, and sunglasses. In a nutshell, everything that was in vogue in the 1970s, but with a modern twist. The other style staple of the festival is makeup – with rhinestones, glitter, and neon.

The art side of Coachella deserves special attention. Every year, Coachella gets filled with impressive art objects. For example, an enormous snail that had a poetic inscription about perfect love, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Or a gigantic astronaut, floating above the visitors. That year, there were flower installations, LED objects, pink balloon clouds, and other mind-blowing modern artworks.
