How to sew a slash pocket

If you feel like the trousers or skirt pattern is lacking slash pockets, you may add them yourself. Check out this video to find out how.

1️. Apply a strip of interfacing to the wrong side of the pocket opening on the front trouser leg piece.

2️. Place the pocket bag right sides together with the front leg piece and align the pocket opening edges. Stitch on the sewing machine, using a 1 cm (3/8") seam allowance.

3️. Press the seam flat. Trim the pocket bag seam allowances down to 0.5 cm (just under 1/4").

4️. Press the seam allowances along the pocket opening toward the pocket bag. Understitch the seam allowances to the pocket bag at 1–2 mm from the seam. Press.

5️. Working from the right side, topstitch the pocket opening at 5–7 mm (about 1/4") from the edge.

6️. Turn the front leg piece wrong side up and fold the pocket bag along its center line, wrong sides together. Stitch along the bottom edge on the sewing machine, using a 0.5 cm (just under 1/4") seam allowance.

7️. Trim the bottom seam allowance down 1–2 mm and then turn the pocket bag right side out. Press, ensuring the seam is right on the edge. Stitch along the bottom edge on the sewing machine, using a 0.5 cm (just under 1/4") seam allowance. This way, you achieve a clean finish of the bottom edge of the pocket bag.

8️. Align the top and side edges of the pocket bag with the ones on the front leg piece and then machine-baste at 0.5 cm (just under 1/4") from each edge.

Done!
