How to sew the hipster briefs

It’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to sew the Run hipster briefs as part of your beloved Vikisews sewing hacks series!

1️. Place the back piece between the front piece and the gusset. The front piece should be facing the right side of the back piece. The gusset piece should be facing the wrong side of the back piece. Align the edges and stitch using a 1 cm (3/8”) seam allowance. Trim the seam allowances down to 0.5 cm (just under 1/4”).

2️. Finish the raw front edge of the gusset on the overlocker and then press it to the wrong side by 1 cm (3/8”). Press the seam allowances toward the front piece and then hand-baste.

3️. Chalk-mark a guiding line at 3 cm (1 1/8”) from the leg opening edge on the wrong side of the garment. Fold the seam allowance under by 1.5 cm (5/8”) and press in place.

4️. Place the front and back pieces right sides together and stitch the side seams. Press the seam allowances toward the back piece.

5️. Fold the leg opening seam allowance to the wrong side following the pre-pressed line and hand-baste. Stitch the leg opening at 1 cm (3/8”) from the folded edge. Use either a coverstitch machine or a stretch twin needle on a regular sewing machine.

6️. Cut the elastic to the necessary length. Overlap its short side edges and stitch. Place the lower edge of the elastic to the upper edge of the garment, overlapping them by 1 cm (3/8”). Distribute the elastic evenly and pin.

7️. Stitch the elastic at 1 mm from its lower edge. Use either a coverstitch machine or a stretch twin needle on a regular sewing machine.
